Benford, Terex and now its Mecalac. Whatever you know these dumpers as you will agree they have been the backbone of construction sites all over the UK since way back to 1953!
The original Benford 4 x 4 dumpers first rolled off the production line in the summer of 53 and were equipped with Lister Petter engines and axles derived from Landrover! For the next 46 years Benford continued to manufacture site dumpers from 1 tonne up to 9 tonne in size. In 1999 the company was bought by the Terex Corporation, as part of their drive to become the world’s #1 construction machinery manufacturer.
The familiar yellow Benford livery was removed and replaced with the Terex white colour scheme. Terex continued the produce dumpers in Coventry up until the end of 2016 when they sold their dumper division to the French construction equipment manufacturer Mecalac.
Mecalac have continued to build the same range of machines from the Coventry factory. Since 2016 they have continued to improve and update many features, including introducing the cabbed dumper range.
