What is Adblue®
AdBlue is primarily used as a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and is a liquid solution made of urea (the same stuff is found in urine!) and deionised water. When this solution meets a hot exhaust system it releases ammonia which is a catalyst to a chemical reaction that converts dangerous Nitrogen Oxides into two harmless products – water vapour and Nitrogen. It is widely used in diesel powered cars and commercial vehicles to enable the vehicles to meet emission requirements.
Adblue® is a colourless solution and is made up of a mixture of high-purity urea (32.5%) and deionised water (67.5%) All Adblue® sold in the EU is produced in accordance with the ISO 22242 standard. The freezing point of Adblue® is -11°C however it will usually thaw very quickly with engine heat if you are driving in temperatures less than this.
Why do you need Adblue® compatible equipment?
AdBlue® DEF is water soluble, biodegradable and non-hazardous, however one thing it does do is eat at the rubber seals and diaphragms found in standard oil and fuel pumps, hoses and nozzles. This is the main reason why investing in the correct equipment to handle Adblue® on site or in the workshop is vital.
At HTS we stock a full range of Adblue® compatible pumps, hoses and dispensing nozzles. Further to this we now also stock a range of Adblue® spill kits. These kits are easily identified by their blue labelling and/or bag. This is a vital piece of safety equipment to have on site to ensure that in the case of an Adblue® spillage the correct spill control equipment is on hand to deal with it. Using a spill control kit designed for oil will not work, the Adblue® will destroy the absorbent pads and socks.
