When spending your days in large powerful construction machinery with great big engines and high risk of potential site hazards - safety is a consideration that cannot be overlooked. Fire safety should always be a key concern, however there are measures you can take to reduce this, to prioritise the safety of all operatives.
Although not mandatory by law, the JCOP lists that,
“‘Ride-on’ mechanically propelled site plant should carry an appropriate fire extinguisher where reasonably practical”.
This advises that all ‘ride-on’ machinery, although not required by law, should carry a fire extinguisher in the potential probable event of fire. The appropriate type of extinguisher when dealing with plant and machinery would be a powder extinguisher as these are most effective in the presence of liquids, chemicals, petrol and grease, all of which are common additions in heavy machinery.
Another handy essential to have in any machine cab is an emergency break glass hammer. This small tool will provide any operative with the ability to break through cab glass and windscreens in the event of an emergency.
These are both best practice machinery cab essentials and considered non negotiable items to be kept in stock.
If you don’t currently have either of these items fitted in your machinery, or need to stock up, then you can find a range of powder fire extinguishers and emergency hammers as well as their brackets by clicking the button below.
